Quantext Workbench is a blog about enhancing teaching and learning. It is designed to support the use of Quantext, a text analysis tool for teachers, but you don’t have to use Quantext to make use of the blog.

Understanding the conversations that occur in educational contexts can provide valuable insights to enhance our practice as educators. Educational conversations occur in the classroom and online, between teachers and students as well as between students and through self-talk during quiet study. Analysing the text that students and teachers produce in educational contexts can shine a light on how our students come to know and understand what we seek to teach them. In small classes where we know our students, we use face to face conversation to help us to shape the educational environment appropriately and to address concerns and misconceptions on the fly. In larger classes this becomes difficult. While there are a variety of techniques that can be used to gauge student understanding, using some basic text analytic techniques can bring the benefits of face to face conversation to large class settings.
